On the horizon …
It’s just about coming into view now on my horizon – our trip to Russia. This blog is mainly to record my travel experiences there but I guess I will probably meander into other thoughts too… I love travel and outdoor type things, running, walking, diving, as well as dabbling in cooking, crafty type things and am a massive reader of all types of books – so looking forward to the 30 hour train journey we’re gonna take back up to Moscow to get through a lot of books then!
I’m travelling with my husband and two friends from work. We’re all teachers and we’re going to run a camp for kids from a school in a place called Armavir which is really far South in Russia, across the sea from Turkey. The school is partly funded by the charity CRY (Care and Relief for the Young) which the school we work at is involved in, hence the trip! We’re also going to fit in a few days in Moscow at the end and some vodka drinking, a huge train ride and some sightseeing.
I’ve not been to Russia before but have travelled a bit, usually only in short bursts during the school holidays! I fell in love with South East Asia some time ago and had a fantastic time in Vietnam for a month last summer. This trip will obviously be slightly different and usually I am a complete geek about researching the place we’re off to. I get really excited and read guides and plan exactly what I want to do. This time, with organising the camp there are more unknowns and things that we just have to wait and see about. Also Russia is more outside my comfort zone, confident as I would be in an Asia market place I’m not sure the Russia culture will feel as welcoming or easy but looking forward to finding out!
